North Mankato Comprehensive Plan

Creating a Comprehensive Plan

The City of North Mankato is in the process of completing a Comprehensive Plan. The purpose of the Comprehensive Plan is to identify issues, opportunities, needs and organize public policy to address them in a manner that makes the best and most appropriate use of the City resources.

What is a Comprehensive Plan?

A Comprehensive Plan is an expression of the community’s vision for the future and a strategic map to reach that vision. Comprehensive planning is an important tool for cities to guide future development of land to ensure a safe, pleasant, and economical environment for residential, commercial, industrial, and public activities.

The plan provides a framework used by the City Council, its advisory Commissions and Boards, and staff in making public policy, and land use and public expenditure decisions.

Key elements of the Plan include:
• Land Use and Growth Management
• Housing
• Economic Development
• Transportation
• Public Utilities
• Parks and Recreation
• Regional Coordination
• Downtown Redevelopment
• Community Design
• Environmental Resources and Sustainability

Draft land use maps are displayed under the Project Updates tab and are also available in the City Council Chambers for review and comment. Stop by and tell us what you think!
